That's the thing about an English Major

Finals are upon us, 2009 is drawing to a close and I had a moment today where I realized that it will still be another two years before I graduate. I realized that after christmas I will have to make all of the leftover x-mas stock somehow fit onto two small risers. Then I will have to deal with people complaining about the price and wondering why it isn't 90% off here when it is down the street.
Then after that lovely revelation, I had another. I'm not sure what I want to do when I graduate. I know I have two years to figure it out, and it's not like I haven't a clue what I would be interested in, I do. But it is so hard to narrow the list. I want to work for the Navy, or work in publishing, or work for the Library of Congress, and at this point I would rather be a realtor that stay at CVS.
The other downside to all of these finals is my lack of reading time. All of the studying also seems to be destroying my reading mojo. I've only been able to get into a couple of small romances, none of the sci-fi epics that are stacked on my bookshelf. Hopefully, once finals are over, my reading mojo will magically reappear and the next time I disapear for months will be because I have been reading the dusty "new" books on my shelves.

I Am An All Powerful Amazon Warrior

I'm going through a feminist/ folk music phase. My favorite internet radio station, Pandora, has been able to introduce me to some new-to-me artists such as Dar Williams, Tracy Chapman and Patty Griffen. I'm loving the sound of these musicians, it's acoustic with a hint of a band in the background and AMAZING lyrics. These artists discuss everything from personal battles to the unfairness of the labels people put on life. I can hardly decide which c.d. to download from Amazon!
I'm also very excited about my trip to the Opera next Saturday! I'm going to see The Flying Dutchman. It's a love story gone wrong, like so many operas are and I think someone jumps into a fire at the end but its sure to be great!

Quote of the Week:
So the Christians and the Pagans sat together at the table
Finding faith and common ground the best that they were able
And just before the meal was served, hands were held and prayers were said
Sending hope for peace on earth to all their gods and goddesses

I don't even know what happened!

I don't know what happened! I think my subconscious decided I needed a break from the blogging world.

Anyway, I'm very excited because as the summer approaches so do the releases of some new books in my favorite series.

From Dead to Worse by Charlaine Harris March 31 (yes, I know it's today)

Dead and Gone
Charlaine Harris May 5

Ashes of Midnight Lara Adrian May 26

Lover Avenged J.R. Ward April 28!!!!! (this one I am UBER excited about)

Skin Trade Laurell K. Hamilton June 2

Rapture Jaquelyn Frank June 30

So you can see, once the end of April hits, I'll have a book come out every two weeks that I want to read!! It's almost embarrassing, the way most of them are romances. Oh well, don't judge!!!

Wednesday Wish You Were Here

Let's talk about Washington State. What is in WA you may ask? Well, for those Twilight geeks out there, we all know that it is riddled with sexy vampires. Some others of us may know Washington for those big Redwoods they have going for them, but that's not all to Washington.

Toppenish, Washington showcases the
Yakama Nation Cultural Heritage Center. There you will be able to learn about the Yakama Indian. This is also one of the oldest museums dedicated to a Native American tribe.

There is Mount St. Helens... the Famous volcano. It exploded in 1980 leaving that massive hole in the middle of it. It is also hugely active still, its last explosion was July 10, 2008.

First, Love...

I really need to stop reading romance novels. Lemme tell you why... They give me an unrealistic expectation of love. I mean I don't understand why a hot Navy SEAL won't walk down the street and fall terribly in love with me. Why is it that romance is so much less romantic in real life?

In which I return from the dead.

I have been failing in keeping you up to date with my life lately! But in my defense I have had much to do.

On Friday was my BFF, Victor's, 20th birthday! We went to the Melting Pot, a fondue restaurant of epicness. I love going there for Cheese and Chocolate. We had Fiesta, Quatro frommagio and Spinach and Artichoke cheese fondue. Then we had Bananas Foster, Tiramisu, and the Original Chocolate fondue to finish. I would like to take this moment to say that my favorite was the Bananas Foster.

Then on Saturday I went to a drag show sponsored by the Pride Alliance at Kennesaw. Several of my friends performed and they were SPECTACULAR!!!!! All of the money raised went to PALS. It is a non-profit organization that helps the elderly and severely ill take care of their pets.

THEN, I was finishing the latest Lora Leigh book, Maverick. It was just as good as her previous books.
Maverick is the second book in her Elite Ops series which is an off-shoot of her Temting SEALS series.
Tiny sum up: the main characters are Micah and Risa. It you have read the Tempting SEALS series then you recognize Risa as the young girl who was kidnapped, raped and held hostage for almost two years before being rescued. So naturally she's freaked where men are concerned. While kidnapped she was given a drug called Whores Dust, which attaches to pleasure receptors in your brain and makes you beg for sex, it also makes you black out and lose memories. So Risa can't remember alot of events from her kidnapping, but has started dreaming about some events (with me so far?)
In walks Micah. He and Risa have been sort of passing each other in the dark, so to speak. They have mutual friends and Micah has seen her while she was leaving and he was going to some ones house. And he's become enthralled with her.
In a surprising turn of events, Risa is being hunted by the same assassin that killed Micah's Mother and Father, so now the Elite Ops team is going to use her as bait, with Micah acting as her bodygaurd, posing as her lover.
As you can imagine, things get pretty steamy from there, and I hate to ruin an ending so here I stop.

So you can see I've been very busy.

Quote of the Week:
Ultimately, Darkness will meet its end. Our choice lies only in the form of its demise. If we meet nothing but success in every stage of our mission, Darkness will helplessly surrender. When we fail, however, we have taken upon ourselves to wrestle it face-to-face to its utter destruction.

In which I sleep late because of the common cold.

Maybe I should take vitamins. At least this cold is just a sore throat, nothing that won't be cured by gargling peroxide (my dad's idea) and taking Aleve. I just hate to take vitamins! You can't have them on an empty stomach or nausea of the worst kind sets in. Maybe those gummy ones for kids... anyway while I was in bed contemplating the ceiling I thought of all of those spa towns that are so popular in Switzerland and decided that would be the destination for Wednesday Wish You Were Here.

The Spa town I chose is Baden, Switzerland. It has everything, hot sulfur springs, roman ruins, and a picturesque ruined castle!

(BTW I find all of the images for Wednesday Wish You Were Here on Flikr)
